Termite Bait Station Installation & Inspection Guide

Termite Baiting is not rocket science like some Pest Control Companies would lead you to believe. As a matter of fact, termite baiting is so simple that anyone can do it. And because the baits used to kill the termites are less toxic than table salt in most cases, termite baiting is very safe.

Termite Bait Station Easy Installation For Smarkdisk, Firstline, Advance and Hex Pro

Just Follow These Easy Steps:
Step 1
Inspect and Diagram Your Home
Before you install your termite bait stations, draw a simple diagram of your home and decide how many termite bait stations you will need. Normally, termite bait stations are placed 3-4 from the foundation and every 10-15 feet around the perimeter of the home. Simply measure or step off the outside walls of your home then divide the total number by 10. If your home is 200 linear feet then divide by 10 and that gives you 20 stations. You can purchase kits with 5, 10, 15, 20 or more stations. You can also purchase termite bait stations individually.

Step 2
Drill Termite Bait Station Holes
Drill the termite bait stations holes with a shovel or our handy termite bait station installation tool. Simply place auger into the soil at the desired location push and twist. Discard the excess soil. Each termite bait station will need its own hole. It helps to drill the station holes in areas of known termite activity, next to tree stumps, conducive areas, areas with excess moisture, etc.

Step 3
Insert Termite Bait Station Into Ground
Fully insert the termite bait station until it is flush with the ground. Make sure that the station is low enough so that it can be mowed over with a lawnmower. Make sure that the see thru window is securely attached to the termite bait station.

Step 4
Inspect Termite Bait Stations Every 4 Weeks
Inspect every 4 weeks and log your results on a chart or log. When termites begin actively feeding, use a toxicant such as Firstline GT Plus, Spectracide Terminate or Optigard Flex to kill the worker termites.

Applying Terminate Termite Killer Stakes

The application of toxicants to kill the worker termites should never begin before a solid feeding connection with the colony is established. This is due to the fact that the scout or forager termites will be the first ones to find and feed on the stations. DO NOT KILL THE SCOUT TERMITES ! This is the reason that toxicant stations are not used initially. When you can visually count 50-75 termites on the wood detector, then it is time to apply the toxicant. Terminate termite killer stakes can be easily positioned next to or even under the Solar Shields (lids). Simply drill a hole at an angle towards the termite detector station body and insert 1 Terminate stake. A minimum of 2 Terminate stakes up to a maximum of 8 Terminate stakes may be used. The use of more than 2 or 3 Terminate stakes at a time is only recommended in areas of severe Formosan Termite Activity such as the gulf coast of the United States, Hawaii, Japan, Taiwan, etc. When the wood detector is completely consumed Terminate or Firstline can then be placed inside the detector station.

Replace the Terminate stakes with new ones when the termites have consumed at least 50% of the toxicant material inside.  You can easily view the toxicant material by looking through the body of the Terminate stake.  Keep replacing the Terminate stakes until the Termites activity stops.  When the Termites have consumed at least 20 - 40 Terminate stakes, you can be relatively assured that control is achieved.  It is then recommended to replace the wood detector inside the Termite detector station and continue checking and monitoring every 3 months to ensure that the termites don't come back !

That's it !  It's really that simple.  The main concern is to make sure that when you inspect the Termite detector stations that you wash your hands to remove any cologne or nicotine (if you smoke) residues which could repel the termites away from the Termite detector stations.  Be sure to inspect your stations a minimum of 1 time per month, more often in areas of high termite activity or where Formosan termites are found.
